In today's world of fancy exercise equipment, it's easy to forget how effective something as simple as a medicine ball can be at improving your abdominals, core strength and athletic ability. Not only do medicine balls improve core strength but they also improve reaction time, movement, coordination, balance and flexibility as well.
Imagine the resistance of weight training combined with the natural movements of gymnastics and you have an almost perfect workout that can be accomplished in only a few minutes per day.

How To Choose The Weight
Medicine ball 'newbies' generally start with a ball that is 2-6 pounds and progress to the 6-15 pounds as they build core strength. People already possessing abdominal strength may use balls between 6 and 15 pounds depending on the desired workout intensity.

Great For Solo Users & Groups
You may use the balls by yourself or with a partner. For even more variety, add more people to the mix! Medicine balls are a great way for a large group to get an effective workout whether it's over a friendly game of toss or by splitting up in teams for competitions.

  Medicine Ball Exercises:
  • Stand back to back with a partner.
  • Keep enough space between you so you're able to hand each other the ball.
  • Keep your hips facing forward
  • Pass the ball to one another by only twisting the torso.
  • Use controlled movements for faster results.

  • Get a partner to stand on the tip of your toes while you sit upright in the 'sit-up' position.
  • Throw a medicine ball to your partner as you lay back.
  • Your partner throws the ball back and you catch it overhead with both hands while you sit up.
  • Do not reach too far back while catching the ball overhead.
  • Lie on your back with your legs extended in the air with the soles of your feet facing your partner.
  • Do not lower your legs to the ground any time during this exercise.
  • Your partner throws the ball onto your feet.
  • Bending your knees back to your chest the ball is kicked back to your partner while returning your legs to the extended position.
To ensure safety while using the medicine ball exercises above, please use complete throws with full extension of the arms, maintain technique without sacrificing control for distance and refrain from catching wild throws.
